Katraj Snake Park – Lake, Timings, Photos Inside!

Twenty kilometers separate the Pune railway station from the city’s outskirts. One of the most well-known zoos in the nation, the Katraj Snake Park, is located here and is well-known for the wide diversity of snake species it displays. This snake park’s original foundation was placed in 1986 under the direction of Mr. Neelim Kumar Khaire, a well-known naturalist who also created the park’s layout. Later, in 1999, the Rajiv Gandhi Udyan series of gardens included the Katraj Snake Park.

The Katraj Snake Park has lawns and trees, much like any other garden. The array of snakes and other reptiles that call Pune’s Katraj Snake Park home is what makes this place special. Here, one can observe snakes of all sizes and forms in addition to other reptiles such as crocodiles and various lizard species.

The snake park is home to an impressive array of reptiles, birds, turtles, and snakes. The Indian rock python, snakes, vipers, cobras, Indian crocodiles, and Indian star tortoises are among the reptiles that can be found here. Ten reptilian species and more than 22 snake species can be found here. Collectively, these represent almost 150 persons.

The leopard, the Civet cats, the deer, the Sparrow Hawk, the Brown Palm Civet, and the Cinereous Vulture—a species that is exclusive to Katraj Snake Park—are among the other wild animals that live in the recently constructed zoo. Turtles and a variety of birds can be found in the park.

The Katraj Snake Park in Pune fancifully celebrates festivals that represent the importance and worship of snakes, such as the Maha Shivaratri and the Naga Panchami. The King Cobra is a frightening and ferocious snake that is nine feet long. It is one of the park’s main attractions and was imported from the Sundarbans expressly. The garden’s verdant grass are undoubtedly a benefit to all of this.

A man-made lake next to Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park is called Katraj Lake. It is not to be confused with the zoo’s Katraj Snake Park Lake. Additionally, it provides a tranquil haven from the activity of the city. In order to provide water to the community, Katraj Lake was excavated. However, its lovely surroundings have made it popular in recent years. Many nature enthusiasts are drawn to it.

From this location, you can take pictures, observe birds, or simply watch the sun set. Additionally, this location offers breathtaking views of the Sahyadri mountain range. A serene jogging path surrounds the lake.

You can get to the island in the center of the lake by boat. On this island, there is a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Maratha ruler, and the Indian flag is flying.
