In Pune, Shrimant Dagadusheth Halwai and his spouse, Laxmibai, were traders and confectioners. His first halwai business, “Dagdusheth Halwai Sweets,” is still open in Pune, next to Datta Mandir. He eventually became a wealthy businessman and a successful sweet salesman. They lost their only son to a plague outbreak in the late 1800s.
